If you have a project that may fit within our criteria, please send us a 1-page letter of interest which includes at a minimum: description of project, species or habitats involved, geographic location, internet links if available, and primary contact person.  If we are interested in possibly funding the project, we will respond, asking for a formal presentation.

Criteria

1. Demonstrable Need

  • Consistent with established global conservation goals as recognized by IUCN, EO Wilson Foundation, and other authorities. Factors for priority include: rareness and vulnerability of species, connectivity, species richness and biodiversity, impacts on climate change mitigation, and threats.
  • Where applicable, either operating within or working to establish nationally recognized protected areas or parks.

2. Likelihood of success

  • Demonstrates sound scientific procedures using for example: transects, camera traps, radio collars on wildlife as necessary, sound measurements, space or air based (e.g. drone)  easurements, biological indicators, among others
  • Seeks advice, where appropriate, from subject matter experts
  • Has a history of success, a detailed project plan, or is endorsed by respected conservation organizations
  • Uses scientific methodologies for evaluating, interpreting and acting on results of field data collection

3. Community engagement

  • Employs local resources and personnel to the extent practical
  • Does not displace local residents—no “fortress conservation”
  • Follows principles of FPIC-Free, Prior, and Informed Consent as appropriate
  • Provides informational and experiential outreach to local/regional schools and organizations

4. Commitment

  • Commits long term; conservation cannot typically be achieved by short term or temporary engagement – no “helicopter conservation”
  • Demonstrates an “All in” commitment

5. Contractual requirements

  • Proposals selected for funding will result in a contract with IFC based on the proposal’s statement of work and schedule.  IFC contracts typically run for one year, to be renewed as the parties agree annually.
  • Field Partners must operate legally in their nations of operation. They must be incorporated and/or registered with the appropriate tax authorities. This is necessary in order to be able to legally transmit funds from the US.
